Fall 2010 Application Deadline

Starting Fall Semester 2010, an application deadline will be in effect at Greenville Technical College. In order to enroll for fall classes, the application and application fee must be received by August 1.

Any student submitting an application after this deadline will not be eligible to enroll for Fall Semester, but will be encouraged to complete the enrollment process by testing, filing the FAFSA, attending orientation, and registering for classes, in order to begin classes in January for Spring Semester 2011.

This important deadline has been added to aid in student success. Studies have shown that students who enroll just prior to the start of classes often are not successful. By adding an application deadline, Greenville Tech can better prepare for the arrival of new and returning students. Students, in turn, can purchase books, make arrangements for child care, and take all steps needed to start the semester ready to succeed.

While the college remains committed to its mission as an open door institution, other policies, practices, and initiatives will soon be implemented to assist with student success. Included will be a mandatory new student orientation designed to acquaint students with the many services available on campus to help them move forward. In addition, application deadlines for future semesters will be announced in the coming weeks.

What is the Honors Program?
The Honors Program is an academic program that is designed to enhance the Greenville Tech experience for bright, highly motivated students. Small, challenging classes encourage dialogue between student and instructor, offer opportunities for independent research, and allow the student to pursue individual goals.

There are currently 120 Honors students. We are always looking for ambitious students to apply.

Myths about being an Honors Student:
1) You have to be the smartest in your class to become an Honors student. Wrong! We are looking for students who are motivated to get the most out of their college experience.

2) You are automatically an Honors student if you have a high enough GPA. Wrong! You must apply to become a member of the Honors Program. Once you are accepted to the program you must complete all of the requirements to stay in the program.

3) If I become an honors student it will just be more work for me to do. Wrong! Honors courses do not assign more work to make classes harder, but delve into topics of study, encouraging critical thinking. This helps to prepare students academically for their future college goals.

What do I get out of it?

Am I Qualified?
If you are applying directly from High School you need EITHER a 3.5 GPA or score of 1150 or higher on the SAT (Or 26 or higher on the ACT).

If you are already a student at Greenville Tech you need a GPA of 3.4 or higher AND at least 9 transferable credits.

How do I apply?
*Get an application from the Honors Website, the Honors Office or call to have one mailed to you.
*Fill out the application and complete a 200 word personal statement and return it to the Honors office by mail or in person.
*Get two letters of Recommendation from persons who are familiar with your academic performance (one of which MUST be a current or past teacher or professor)
*Sign up for an interview with the Director of the Program to meet about your goals and motivations for becoming an Honors Student.

Then What?You will receive a letter of acceptance to the program and fill out a form to have your status changed to being an Honors Student. You will be assigned an Honors Advisor according to your major, and then you’re an Honors Student! Start signing up for honors courses and keep studying!

Registration will begin October 26 for new students at Greenville Tech.
Between now and October 26 you can complete the Admissions process, apply for Financial Aid and take placement tests (if applicable).

§ Complete an Admissions Application

§ Complete a Declaration of Legal Presence and verify with approved supporting documents

§ Submit an Official High School Transcript (after you graduate) and/or Official College Transcript to:

§ Pay $35.00 application fee to the Business Office

§ Send valid SAT/ACT/AP scores to Admissions. If you do not have valid SAT or ACT scores you will be required to take a COMPASS or ASSET placement test
